Community-Based Assessment
YADI works with leaders, youth volunteers, and local institutions to understand household food access, consumption patterns, and priority needs.
YADI Programs / Food Security & Nutrition
YADI's Food Security & Nutrition program connects rapid food-security action, livelihood recovery, nutrition surveillance, and community resilience into one practical support system for vulnerable households.
Household food access and vulnerability mapping
Emergency food response and social protection referrals
MUAC screening, SAM identification, and referral to care
Climate-smart livelihoods and household nutrition education
Program Overview
In contexts affected by conflict, climate hazards, displacement, and economic stress, YADI treats food security and nutrition as a critical part of disaster risk reduction and emergency response.
The program combines nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific interventions to help prevent and respond to Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM), especially among children under five, pregnant and lactating women, and other high-risk groups.
Food Security System
The program starts with community intelligence and moves through rapid action, household support, nutrition response, and long-term resilience building.
YADI works with leaders, youth volunteers, and local institutions to understand household food access, consumption patterns, and priority needs.
Vulnerable households are linked to food assistance, social protection, and safe food handling messages during crisis and early recovery.
Community-level screening helps detect acute malnutrition early through MUAC checks, SAM identification, and referral pathways.
Households strengthen food production, climate-smart practices, income generation, and livelihood diversification.
Assessment & Targeting
YADI's food security interventions begin with participatory assessment, early identification of food insecurity risks, and household vulnerability mapping.
Understand household access to safe, nutritious, and reliable food sources.
Identify families exposed to food shortages, displacement, economic stress, or malnutrition risk.
Track harmful coping patterns such as skipping meals, reducing diet quality, or selling productive assets.
Work with local leaders and youth networks to verify needs and prioritize support fairly.
Emergency Response
Support families facing acute food shortages and displacement-related disruption.
Promote safe food access, storage, handling, and preparation during emergencies.
Connect households to humanitarian assistance, government support, and social protection services.
Use youth volunteers to follow changes in food access, consumption, and coping behavior.
Livelihood Protection
YADI supports communities to strengthen and diversify livelihoods through climate-resilient and disaster-sensitive practices, including small-scale agriculture, food production, and income-generating activities.
Nutrition Response
YADI implements community-level nutrition surveillance to detect and respond to acute malnutrition among children under five, pregnant women, and other vulnerable groups.
Use Mid-Upper Arm Circumference screening to identify malnutrition risk early.
Recognize Severe Acute Malnutrition cases that need urgent treatment and follow-up.
Connect uncomplicated and complicated SAM cases to outpatient, inpatient, or therapeutic care.
Promote maternal nutrition, IYCF, dietary diversity, and better household food utilization.
Youth Food Security Network
Through structured training, youth serve as community facilitators and peer educators, promoting food production, food utilization, nutrition awareness, and resilience-building practices at household level.
Coordination & Partnerships
YADI aligns food security and nutrition interventions with government institutions, humanitarian actors, development partners, and community structures to improve reach, accountability, and sustainability.
Impact Focus
Households gain better access to safe, adequate, and nutritious food.
Malnutrition risks are detected earlier and referred through appropriate care pathways.
Families improve production, income stability, and resilience to future shocks.
Communities strengthen their capacity to withstand climate, conflict, and economic stress.
