YADI Programs / Education & Capacity Building

Turning knowledge into practical resilience capacity.

YADI strengthens disaster risk reduction, public safety, emergency preparedness, and community resilience by equipping people and institutions with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to act before, during, and after crises.

Program Overview

Resilience grows when learning moves from awareness to behaviour change.

YADI views education and capacity building as a core strategy for reducing vulnerability and strengthening public safety across Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

Training is designed for practical use: participants learn risk concepts, rehearse response actions, map community realities, and build the habits needed to protect households, institutions, and neighbourhoods.

01 Assess learning needs, audience context, hazards, and institutional capacity gaps
02 Deliver structured training on DRR, preparedness, climate risk, WASH, and safety
03 Use simulations, drills, community mapping, and scenario planning for mastery
04 Translate knowledge into behaviour change, local action, and long-term resilience

Learning System

How YADI turns education into practical preparedness capability.

The model blends context-specific instruction with participatory exercises so learners can understand risk, practice response, and apply new skills within their own community or institutional environment.

Diagnose

Needs & Risk Review

Identify hazards, vulnerabilities, participant profile, learning gaps, and readiness priorities.

Teach

Structured Learning

Deliver clear training on disaster risk reduction, preparedness, climate risk, WASH, food security, and safety.

Practice

Simulation & Drills

Use scenarios, field exercises, emergency drills, and mapping to build confidence and action habits.

Sustain

Applied Resilience

Support participants to transfer skills into households, schools, institutions, and community systems.

Strategic Curriculum

Training content is tailored to real hazards, audiences, and operating environments.

YADI’s curriculum is built around the knowledge and behaviours that communities need to anticipate risk, reduce vulnerability, and respond effectively.

Disaster Risk Reduction

Hazard identification, vulnerability analysis, mitigation, preparedness, and community risk reduction.

Emergency Preparedness

Readiness planning, response roles, evacuation thinking, basic emergency practice, and referral pathways.

Climate Risk Management

Local adaptation, environmental awareness, climate-linked hazards, and household resilience practices.

WASH & Food Security

Hygiene, sanitation, nutrition awareness, safe water, household health, and food resilience practices.

Training Delivery Model

Participants learn faster when training feels close to real-life decisions.

YADI uses participatory and experiential learning methods that move beyond classroom instruction. Participants rehearse choices, test coordination, and practice response behaviours in safe learning environments.

Classroom SessionsStructured learning for core concepts, roles, tools, and preparedness principles
SimulationsScenario-based exercises that help learners make decisions under realistic pressure
Field ExercisesPractice in community settings, risk zones, school environments, and operational contexts
Community MappingIdentifying local risks, resources, vulnerable groups, and response pathways

Target Learning Groups

Capacity building is adapted for the people and institutions who need to act.

Different audiences need different tools. YADI tailors content, language, exercises, and delivery methods to match each group’s responsibilities and context.

Youth Groups

Peer educators, mobilisers, campaign ambassadors, and community preparedness advocates.

Schools & Universities

Students, teachers, administrators, and campus communities building safety cultures.

Community Leaders

Local decision-makers supporting preparedness, risk communication, and coordinated response.

Frontline Actors

Volunteers, responders, institutions, and field teams improving operational readiness.

Partnerships & Quality

Training outcomes are stronger when learning aligns with institutions and technical standards.

YADI collaborates with government institutions, academic bodies, emergency response agencies, civil society organisations, and community structures to improve technical quality, reach, sustainability, and national alignment.

Government InstitutionsPolicy alignment, coordination support, and connection to public safety systems
Academic InstitutionsResearch collaboration, learning design, evidence generation, and curriculum support
Emergency AgenciesTechnical input on preparedness, response protocols, drills, and operational readiness
Civil SocietyCommunity outreach, grassroots facilitation, inclusion, and sustained field engagement

Impact Focus

What Education & Capacity Building programming strengthens.

Risk Awareness

Participants better understand hazards, vulnerability, preparedness, mitigation, and early action.

Practical Readiness

Learners gain usable response skills through drills, simulations, field practice, and scenario planning.

Institutional Capacity

Schools, community groups, volunteers, and frontline actors improve coordination and safety systems.

Behaviour Change

Knowledge translates into safer habits, better decisions, stronger households, and more resilient communities.

Take Action

Build the knowledge, skills, and systems communities need before disaster strikes.
