Program Overview
YADI implements community resilience building to strengthen the capacity of individuals, households, and communities to anticipate, absorb, adapt to, and recover from shocks and stresses.
The approach links disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation, humanitarian preparedness, peacebuilding, and development objectives so communities can manage risk and transform under changing conditions.
Resilience System
The resilience model begins with local evidence and moves through youth leadership, multi-sector interventions, institutional linkage, inclusion, and adaptive learning.
Identify hazards, exposure, social dynamics, livelihood vulnerabilities, coping mechanisms, and community strengths.
Equip young people to support risk assessment, early warning, disaster preparedness, climate adaptation, and engagement.
Connect DRR, food security, nutrition, WASH, climate risk management, environmental protection, and peacebuilding.
Use feedback, monitoring, and lesson documentation to improve resilience strategies over time.
Participatory Assessment
YADI conducts participatory vulnerability and capacity assessments with communities, youth groups, women, and vulnerable populations to design locally owned strategies.
Identify environmental, climatic, social, and disaster-related risks.
Understand which people, assets, services, and livelihoods are most affected.
Document how communities currently respond to shocks and stresses.
Ensure women, youth, marginalized groups, and vulnerable populations shape the strategy.
Youth Resilience Champions
Youth volunteers are trained as resilience champions with skills in risk assessment, early warning dissemination, disaster preparedness, climate adaptation, and community mobilization.
Multi-Sector Resilience
Strengthen community readiness for emergencies, hazards, and shocks.
Improve household food access and strengthen nutrition outcomes.
Support access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
Reduce climate vulnerability while strengthening social cohesion and conflict prevention.
Capacity Building & Community Learning
YADI organizes workshops, training sessions, simulation exercises, local disaster management committees, youth-led response teams, and peer support networks that foster local ownership.
Build practical knowledge on risk reduction, preparedness, and adaptation.
Use drills and scenario practice to improve emergency response readiness.
Establish community structures for coordination, preparedness, and response.
Encourage knowledge sharing across households, youth teams, and community groups.
Institutional Linkages
YADI coordinates with government institutions, humanitarian actors, development partners, and climate adaptation frameworks to align resilience initiatives with national DRR strategies, climate policies, and development goals.
Inclusivity & Protection
YADI prioritizes inclusive participation and protection by ensuring women, youth, persons with disabilities, marginalized groups, and vulnerable populations can access resilience-building opportunities and shape decisions.
Monitoring & Adaptive Resilience
YADI integrates monitoring, feedback collection, lesson documentation, and adaptive management into resilience initiatives so data can guide continuous improvement.
Impact Focus
Communities are better equipped to manage shocks, stresses, and changing risks.
Early warning, preparedness structures, and response capacities are strengthened.
Cross-sector coordination improves system effectiveness and reduces vulnerability.
Communities build long-term adaptive capacity for environmental, social, and economic change.
